Wow, the last book club of 2020. I’m so glad we could get together last night without freezing. It was great to see everyone, especially Ross who we have all missed lots!<\/p>\n
Ross started us off with a reading from the first page of Bang by Barry Lyga. Gripping to say the least.<\/p>\n
Christiana read my pick from last month, The Book of Longings by Sue Monk Kidd. I love when someone else can enjoy a book I loved. She went through a mermaid mood and read The Deep by Rivers Solomon and others, and is still enjoying The Oyster Thief by Sonia Faruqi. I’m borrowing a non fiction book of hers, Working Successfully with Screwed-up People by Elizabeth B. Brown.<\/p>\n
I read Christiana and Hugh’s pick No Exit by Taylor Adams. It was the fast paced read I needed. So was Ruth Ware’s One by One, an homage to Agatha Christie’s Then There Were None. Shana is borrowing One by One, Ross is borrowing No Exit.<\/p>\n
Mariya enjoyed Shana’s pick from last month, Recipe for Persuasion by Sonali Dev. She also read Little Deadly Secrets by Pamela Crane. She followed up a previous memoir, The Bucolic Plague: How Two Manhattanites Became Gentlemen Farmers: An Unconventional Memoir with another memoir by Josh Kilmer-Purcell. His previous memoir, I Am Not Myself These Days, sounds a little grittier but fascinating. How can you compete with goldfish bras?<\/p>\n
Matt read The Devil All the Time by Donald Ray Pollock, and Lives of the Stoics: the Art of Living from Zeno to Marcus Aurelius\u00a0 by Ryan Holiday and Stephen Hanselman. Both sound so interesting to me, but my major reading slump is regrettable and I know I probably wouldn’t make it through them even though I want to.<\/p>\n
Shana finished Christiana’s pick, A Long Way Home by Saroo Brierly. Ross is borrowing it next. She tried my chick-lit pick from last month Dear Emma by Katie Heaney and it was so bad she couldn’t read it haha. I will try to recover.<\/p>\n
Hugh read Off The Grid, a thriller by C J Box and really enjoyed the author. He also read a non fiction book Agent M: The Lives and Spies of M15’s Maxwell Knight by Henry Hemming.<\/p>\n
We missed you and your strange fiction picks Ashley. It was so nice to catch up with everyone. Let’s play January by ear. It could be unseasonably warm.
